Privacy Policy
Effective Date: February 13, 2025
This Privacy Policy explains how Live From Wisco LLC ("Live From Wisco," "we," "us," or "our"), a Wisconsin limited-liability company, collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information when you access or use our mobile application, website at livefromwisco.com, and any related services (collectively, the "Services"). By using the Services you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Age Restriction & Eligibility
The Services are intended solely for individuals who are at least eighteen (18) years of age. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under 18. During account registration, we require you to provide your date of birth, and we verify that you meet the minimum age requirement before allowing you to create an account. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a person under 18, we will delete that information as quickly as practicable. If you believe that a user under 18 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected].
2. Information We Collect
A. Information You Provide Directly
• Account & Profile Data: email address, password (stored in hashed form only), date of birth, gender, display name (hashtag), avatar image, tagline, bio, and profile theme preferences.
• User-Generated Content: photos, captions, poll responses, replies, and any other content you submit through the Services.
• Support & Communication Data: support-ticket subjects, descriptions, messages, and any file attachments you send through our in-app support system.
• Shipping Information: if you provide a shipping address for merchandise fulfillment (full name, street address, city, state, postal code, and country).
• Payment Information: if you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment is processed by Stripe. We store only your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers—we never receive or store your full credit card number.
• Reports: if you report another user or piece of content, we collect the reason and any details you provide.
B. Information Collected Automatically
• Device & Session Data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, whether the device is mobile, and session timestamps.
• Location Data: approximate geographic location (city, region, and country) derived from your IP address at the time of login. We do not use GPS or precise device-level location services.
• Usage & Activity Data: pages and content viewed, likes, follows, photo views, daily like streaks, last-active timestamps, and engagement metrics used to calculate your community score ("Wiscore").
• Push Notification Tokens: if you enable push notifications, we collect device-level push tokens (Expo or web push) so we can deliver notifications to your device.
• Screenshot Detection Events: on supported platforms, the Services may detect when a screenshot is taken while viewing content. We record the screen name, platform, and detection method. These records are automatically deleted after seven (7) days.
• Cookies & Similar Technologies: we use session cookies and authentication tokens (JSON Web Tokens stored in HTTP-only cookies) to maintain your logged-in state and protect against cross-site request forgery. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
C. Information From Third Parties
We may receive limited information from payment processors (e.g., Stripe) to confirm subscription status, or from email-delivery providers to confirm message delivery. We do not purchase personal data from data brokers.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information for the following purposes:
• To provide, operate, and maintain the Services, including account creation, content moderation, and photo delivery.
• To verify your identity and age eligibility during registration.
• To process subscriptions and payments through our third-party payment processor.
• To communicate with you, including sending transactional emails (account verification, password resets, support-ticket updates), push notifications, and optional digest or promotional messages that you can control in your notification settings.
• To personalize your experience, such as displaying your feed based on your content-rating filter preference.
• To enforce our Terms & Conditions, including detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, unauthorized access, and violations of our community guidelines.
• To generate aggregate, de-identified analytics to improve the Services (e.g., understanding usage trends and feature adoption).
• To fulfill merchandise shipments when you provide a shipping address.
• To respond to legal obligations, law-enforcement requests, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Live From Wisco, our users, or the public.
4. Legal Bases for Processing
We process your personal information under the following legal bases: (a) performance of our contract with you (our Terms & Conditions); (b) your consent, where applicable (e.g., push notifications or optional marketing emails); (c) our legitimate interests in operating, improving, and securing the Services; and (d) compliance with legal obligations.
5. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We share data only as follows:
• Service Providers: we use third-party vendors that process data on our behalf, including Stripe (payment processing), Backblaze B2 (cloud file storage for photos and attachments), MailerSend (transactional email delivery), and Expo (push notification delivery). These providers are contractually obligated to use your data only to perform services for us and to protect your information.
• Community Visibility: your display name, avatar, bio, tagline, badges, and approved photos are visible to other users of the Services in accordance with your privacy settings (e.g., whether to show followers, following lists, or join date).
• Legal Requirements: we may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or governmental request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Live From Wisco, our users, or others.
• Business Transfers: in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or prominent notice on the Services before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. Specific retention periods include:
• Account Data: retained until you request account deletion.
• Session Records: automatically deleted after the refresh-token lifetime expires (based on last activity).
• Read Notifications: automatically deleted seven (7) days after being marked as read. Unread notifications are retained until read or until account deletion.
• Screenshot Detection Events: automatically deleted seven (7) days after creation.
• Password-Reset & Email-Verification Tokens: expire and are automatically deleted after their short-lived validity period.
• Photos & Content: retained while your account is active. If a photo is removed by moderation or by you, the associated file is deleted from cloud storage.
• Payment Records: Stripe customer and subscription identifiers are retained for the duration of your subscription and as required for tax and accounting purposes.
When you request account deletion, we will delete or de-identify your personal information within thirty (30) days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (e.g., fraud prevention, resolving disputes, or enforcing our agreements).
7. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including: passwords are stored using one-way cryptographic hashing (bcrypt); authentication tokens are transmitted via HTTPS and stored in HTTP-only, secure cookies; access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel; and data at rest in our cloud storage is encrypted. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:
• Access & Portability: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction: request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
• Deletion: request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions.
• Opt-Out of Communications: you can manage push-notification and email preferences in your account settings at any time. Transactional messages (e.g., password resets) cannot be opted out of while your account is active.
• Withdraw Consent: where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
• Non-Discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your privacy rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond to verified requests within thirty (30) days.
9. U.S. State Privacy Rights
Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws (including but not limited to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and others that may enact similar legislation) may have additional rights under those laws. For the twelve-month period preceding the effective date of this policy:
• We have not sold personal information to third parties as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or similar state laws.
• We have not shared personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
• Categories of personal information collected are described in Section 2 above.
If you are a California resident, you may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. We may require verification of your identity before fulfilling any request.

If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have data-protection laws that differ from those in your country. By using the Services, you consent to this transfer.
